Hokkaido is Japan’s 2nd largest island and is the most northern island. It’s the center of Japanese agriculture and aquaculture. The fertile land and ocean offer the best produce, seafood, and dairy products. During the mild summer, you enjoy scenic volcanic mountain hiking, canoeing in the most transparent water, taking a stroll in endless lavender fields. In the wintertime, you enjoy powdery snow in world-class ski resorts. Shiretoko Peninsula is a world heritage site and has importance for marine and terrestrial species, including owls, salmon, sea lions, Killer whales, Minke whales, sperm whales, and Fin whales. Hokkaido remains one of the top destinations among all tourists in Japan. The capital is Sapporo City.
