2024 Feb. 4-11: Sapporo Snow Festival

Updated: Nov 21, 2023

The Sapporo Snow Festival, a major winter event, will be held in Sapporo City at Odori, Susukino, Tsudomu and other venues! The festival will be held for eight days from February 4 (Sun.) to February 11 (Sun., national holiday), 2024, and for the first time in four years, an international snow sculpture competition is scheduled to be held, so it is sure to be a lively event.

The even is one of the world's three major snow festivals, along with the Quebec Winter Carnival in Canada and the Harbin Ice Festival in China. In total, more than 200 snow and ice sculptures are created at the three venues, attracting an estimated 2.5 million visitors per week. At night, the snow sculptures are lit up and transformed into fantastic snow sculptures colored with light, attracting tourists with a different look from that of during the daytime. Popular entertainment figures such as Star Wars and Final Fantasy have also made appearances, making the festival enjoyable for all ages.

HOT TIPS: Hokkaido is known for fantastic food. Try Sapporo ramen noodle while you're there. King Crabs are in season, too. Check out Saimi or Junren for the best Sapporo style ramen noodle!
