If you’ve ever wanted to feel the thunderous beat of Taiko drumming in your soul, I can’t recommend a Taiko class in Akihabara enough! During my recent visit to Japan, I had the incredible opportunity to join a Taiko drumming session at Taiko Lab, and it was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my trip.
Although I had never played Taiko before taking this class, it has always been my favorite instrument. Japan has various types of Taiko, and they are often associated with celebrations, harvest festivals, and moments of excitement.
Beginner-Friendly and Full of Fun: One of the best things about this class is that it’s perfect for everyone—even if you’ve never touched a drumstick in your life. The instructor was incredibly kind and motivational, making the experience welcoming and exciting. With their guidance, we quickly picked up the rhythm and techniques, and by the end of the class, I felt like a seasoned performer.
The Energy of the Big Drum: After we wrapped up, the instructor treated us to a powerful solo performance on a massive Taiko drum. The deep, resonant beats filled the room, leaving us all in awe. It was inspiring to see their passion and skill up close, and it only fueled my desire to keep drumming.
Taiko drumming connects you to Japan’s rich traditions in a hands-on way. I’m already counting down the days until I can join another class. If you’re visiting Japan and looking for an unforgettable experience, try Taiko drumming in Akihabara—it’s a memory you’ll cherish forever!
